Ottoman/Syrian musical traditions meet new compositions and free improvisation in this concert dedicated to the essence of being human. In collaboration with visual artist Eva Esmann Behrens, the concert invites light into a sensory-filled space with dynamic visuals and lighting projections created live on the walls. This is music of fine details, exploring the depth of microtonality, where silences carry as much weight as the outspoken. Oud player Maher Mahmoud is a highly acclaimed Syrian musician and composer. Trained in the classical Arabic tradition, he is also a master at fusing diverse musical styles. Maher has performed and recorded with a wide range of Danish and international artists. Vocalist and percussionist Mette Marie Ørnstrup has explored many musical borderlands, both as an improviser, performer, and global musician. She has traveled the world with her music and spent a year and a half living in Istanbul, studying classical Ottoman music and singing at the conservatory. Eva Esmann Behrens works as a visual artist, specializing in projections and light for both large and small installations as well as live performances. With a background that includes dance, she has, since 2016, developed her visual practice in collaboration with a network of international artists.
