Sirto
Jiraan, that is Arabic for 'neighbours' – and these are the members of the ensemble of the Syrian violinist Shalan Alhamwy, both geographically and musically. This afternoon they explore the roots of the sirto, a folk dance that occurs in Turkish, Greek and Arabic music traditions and is also not far from Balkan music. Dialogue and connection are at the heart of the sirto, which you dance hand in hand in a circle. Say, Wonderfeel neighbor.
