As part of the Funun Festival, the chamber orchestra of Sousan Eskandar and the two soloists Maher Mahmoud (Oud) and George Hayrabedian (cello) invite you on a musical journey between Western modernism and the oriental music world. 

The focus of the evening will be the two compositions "Cello Concerto" and "Oud Concerto" by the important Syrian composer Nouri Iskandar, who will be present at the evening. Both pieces are the result of a direct influence of Assyrian-Aramaic music.

Nouri Iskandar is one of the most well-known and important exponents of a style that mediates between the worlds of music - the makamat (melody modes) of oriental music, the lyrics of Assyrian-Aramaic Christianity and the principles of Western modernity, all of which are equally in his works find. Nouri Iskandar, who now lives in Sweden, sees the further development of Assyrian-Aramaic music as his life's work.

In the second part of the evening, Maher Farkouh discusses the role of Syriac orthodox church music and the influence of Assyrian music on the two concerts of the evening. Maher Farkouh is a musician and musicologist and holds a doctorate in liturgy music from the Syrian Orthodox Church. He lives in Hannover and works for the "Musikland Niedersachsen" gGmbH.
